Shingle Street is a tiny hamlet located in the Suffolk Coastal District of England. It is tucked away on the banks of the River Deben and is only a few miles from the seaside town of Aldeburgh. This picturesque village has a fascinating history that dates back to the 11th century.

The name Shingle Street comes from the area's unique geography. The beach is made up of large, flat stones called shingles, which are washed up by the tides of the sea. This makes it a popular spot for beachcombing and birdwatching.

The village has been inhabited since at least the 11th century, and it has a rich and varied history. During the medieval period, it was a thriving fishing village. The fishing industry was so successful that in 1330, the village was granted a charter giving it the right to hold a weekly market. In the 18th century, Shingle Street became a popular spot for smugglers. The village was situated near the Suffolk coast and was an ideal spot for smugglers to unload their goods. This illegal activity was so rampant that in 1813, the Royal Navy sent a warship to patrol the area.

During World War II, the area was used as a base for the Royal Air Force. The airfield was used by Canadian, American and British forces. The airfield was also used for training exercises and as a supply base.

Today, Shingle Street is a peaceful village with a population of around 200 people. The village is a popular spot for holidaymakers and is a great place to visit if you are looking for a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere.
